Harmony at the Heart of Beaver Island
TUNES Music Makers provides accessible, high-quality music education and creative opportunities to the Beaver Island community, with a special focus on improving the mental health and well-being of both young people and older adults. By fostering creativity, building confidence, and strengthening social connections across generations, we enrich lives while preserving the island’s unique musical heritage. Our mission is to ensure that every member of our community—regardless of age, background, or financial situation—can experience the transformative power of music as a tool for personal growth, emotional wellness, and cultural continuity.

Music Lessons for Every Age—With Youth at the Center
Lessons run in 12-week sessions. Before each session begins, we review registrations and award scholarships based on need and available funding. To stay true to our mission and serve the community responsibly, we prioritize scholarships for school-aged students first, followed by senior citizens, and then adults if funding remains.
And in gratitude for their service: Veterans receive music lessons at no cost.
If you are interested in lessons, we encourage you to apply under Registration.

𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐍𝐢𝐜 𝐆𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐢𝐬𝐬
Internationally acclaimed dancer Nic Gareiss is one of today's leading practitioners of traditional percussive dance. Drawing from Irish, Appalachian, and French Canadian traditions, his performances are celebrated for their extraordinary musicality, artistry, and joy.
Named one of 𝐃𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐳𝐢𝐧𝐞'𝐬 "𝟐𝟓 𝐭𝐨 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡," Nic has performed and taught across North America and Europe, earning praise from The New York Times as "a virtuoso step dancer in Irish and Appalachian traditions…an undersung treasure."
What makes Nic's visit especially meaningful to Beaver Island is his appreciation for living musical traditions. He has even performed to historic recordings of legendary Beaver Island fiddler 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐤 𝐁𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐫, celebrating the island's unique place in the story of traditional music.
Now, this world-renowned artist is coming to Beaver Island to share his passion in a 𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐞, 𝐦𝐢𝐱𝐞𝐝-𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩 for all ages and skill levels. Whether you've danced for years or never taken a step, you'll leave with a deeper appreciation for rhythm, tradition, and the joy of movement.
